Hello, and a warm welcome to my website. Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Derek Black and I was born and bred in Dundee, Scotland. I have been a keen amateur photographer for almost 40 years. It all started when a neighbour of mine introduced me to developing film and printing my own black & white pictures. Then it was on to developing colour slides and printing Cibachrome prints from these slides. And now I have reached the digital age!
Over the years my interests in photography have been wide and varied. At first, I was keen on landscapes and would travel throughout Scotland but always returning to my favourite area for these landscapes, around Fort William.
I also enjoy trying my hand at action sports photography and have been following the Scottish Rally Championship for some years now. This has led to my pictures being used by some of the top rally teams in Scotland, mainly for websites and other publicity items.
Having been a lifetime supporter of ice hockey, I decided that I would take my camera to the Dundee Ice Arena to see if I could get some action shots of my favourite team the Dundee Stars. It wasn't long before I was approached by one of the directors of the Stars and asked if I would be willing to supply pictures for the match programmes. So since January 2004 I have been the Stars photographer........hey, maybe I could call myself 'photographer to the Stars'! No, not film or TV stars but the Dundee Stars!! Since then, many of my pictures have been used by various ice hockey teams throughout the UK.
Please take a few minutes to have a look around my site, hopefully you'll like it.
